KMAN 92.5 Tapes is pleased to present, in a limited run of 25 cassettes, LA jazz quartet Sinkeater's 2017 album Purge. Clocking in at just under 30 minutes, it is a concise distillation of the interplay of four impressive players. Saxophonist A.J. Kluth and guitarist Chili Corder share writing duties - their melodic dialogue throughout is matched by the insistent groove of bassist Nashir Janmohamed and drummer Anthony Lopez. The group aurally emerges from tape purgtatory into hi-fi widescreen in their rendition of "As Sweet As Sweet Can Be." They flex their muscles on "Dickie Dell's Dollhouse" only to linger on the melodic sweetness of the Roches' "Hammond Song." Corder begins his "Mustachioed Mall Cop" in Ry Cooder's wide open Paris Texas spaces, only for the four to descend into chaos and emerge scathing. "Sink Eater" closes things with the gentle, searching buoyancy of its opening tones maintained faithfully throughout.

This is contemporary jazz KMAN would like you to hear.
